National Association of Landscape Professionals

Overview:

The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) represents close to 100,000 professionals in the landscaping industry with members who specialize in landscape design, installation and maintenance, lawn and tree care, irrigation, water management, and interior plantscaping. Members not only include companies, but also students, consultants, state associations, and industry suppliers. Their mission is to advocate for lawn and landscape industry growth and the benefits they provide to their communities.

Conferences/Events:

NALP has many different events each year which include a national conference in the fall, as well as Leader Forums, Legislative Events, National Collegiate Landscape Competition, NALP Field Trip, Renewal & Remembrance Event, and On Tour “behind the scenes” events. There are several different membership types with varying costs:

Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA)

(USA, Worldwide)

Overview:

The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), once called the National Arborist Association, was established in 1938 as a trade association. Today it consists of 2,300 tree care and affiliated companies worldwide with the goal of facilitating the growth of tree care industry businesses.

TCIA provides education, training, publications, and conferences for landscape companies around the world to further promote tree care safety and standard tree care practice.

Conferences/Events:

TCIA has three signature events per year: Expo, Winter Management Conference and the Executive Arborist Workshop. Their next conference will be held February 5-9, 2023 in Barbados. Conference and workshop details can be found on the association website.

Membership Details:

There are three membership categories:

  • Tree care companies in the United States
  • Tree care companies outside of the United States
  • Tree care industry supplier, manufacturer or service provider

American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)

Overview:

American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) currently has more than 15,000 members representing the landscape architect industry. ASLA encourages and supports members who lead the industry with sustainable design and development initiatives aimed at providing nature based solutions that further promote clean environmental practices.

Conferences/Events:

There is one annual conference per year for ASLA members. The 2023 conference is scheduled for October 27-30 in Minneapolis. The 2024 conference will take place in Washington, DC from October 6-9.

International Society of Arboriculture

The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) focuses on raising public awareness about the value of trees and their economic, environmental and societal benefits and impacts. Through research programs, ISA is able to educate people around the world about how proper tree care can help lead to healthier trees and a greener economy that can sustain more vulnerable communities.

Conferences/Events:

ISA offers members one annual conference and trade show per year, plus professional Tree Climbing Competitions around the world, and Scientific Symposia that disseminates information related to tree biomechanics, climate change, and urbanization impacts on natural resources and populations.

Perennial Plant Association (PPA)

Overview:

The Perennial Plant Association (PPA) consists of seven regions: Northeast, Southern, Great Lakes, Mid Atlantic, Central, Western, and Canada. Membership includes landscape designers, growers, contractors, educators, and other industry professionals.

Conferences/Events:

There are several events per year, including one National Symposium and a number of Regional Symposiums, as well as virtual webinars.

The 2023 National Symposium is currently scheduled for July 24-28 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Membership Details:

Membership is divided up into several categories with varying annual dues.
